used Vox VR30R Valve Reactor VR30 Reverb Hybrid Guitar Combo Amp. Does not include a footswitch. QC'd 11/7/24 - Tested OK - In good fully functional working condition
Vox introduced the VR Series amps in 2005. I spoke with a sales manager at Vox who explained the concept of the VR30R.
Vox was already having considerable success with the AD30VT, introduced just a year earlier. The AD30VT used REMs modeling and effects circuitry along with a program patch memory in its preamp circuitry. It also featured a Vox "Valve Reactor" tube hybrid 30 watt output section.
While the preamp circuitry in the AD30VT offered incredible flexibility in tone and effects, operating the control functions was a bit intimidating to some. Vox decided that they should introduce an amp that had a traditional knob based "what you see is what you get" front panel. This preamp would then be combined with the 30 watt Valve Reactor hybrid output circuit from the AD30VT. This combination of preamp and power amp became the VR30R.
The VR30R has two switchable channels. The Normal channel is the "clean" channel, with Volume, Bass, and Treble controls. It has a clean and bright tone. The Overdrive channel has Gain, Volume, Bass and Treble controls plus an OD Style switch. OD1 offers a bluesy over drive, OD2 has a "high overdrive" aggressive distortion. A Master Volume and Reverb control complete the control panel. The reverb is based on a traditional spring delay pan.
The VR30R was discontinued in 2006. Vox did not offer a new model in replacement.
